What is the Long Lake Association (LLA)?
Did you know all Long Lake residents, full-time or seasonal, are part of the Long Lake Association? You are!
The LLA was established in the early 1990’s by a small group of concerned Long Lakers and is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt charitable organization. Your donations and the Town of Long Lake annual budget line of $17K per year supports the activities of the LLA.
Our Mission:
The mission of the Long Lake Association (LLA) , in Long Lake, NY, is to preserve and enhance the health and beauty of the lake and to promote its wise use for the benefit and enjoyment of present and future generations.
Since Long Lake is an asset to all that live in the Town, all Long Lake residents, full-time and seasonal, are part of the LLA. The LLA is not a membership organization and relies on a Board of Directors and volunteers to actively participate to support the mission. If you would like to join the Board of the LLA, please let us know.
What's Happening in 2024?
For 2024, the LLA scheduled two sessions of the NYS Safe Boating Course to be held in Long Lake. Registration is required.
In July 2022, the LLA sponsored an aquatic invasive plant survey of Long Lake and Jennings Pond. A presentation was provided on December 2, 2022 at the CVW Long Lake Public Library by Dr. Ezra Schwartzberg of ADK Research LLC.
Based on this survey, the LLA Board decided to sponsor limited surveys during the summers of 2023, 2024, and 2025 based on the 2022 survey locations with a full survey completed again in 2026. This should help us determine whether conditions are changing and whether remediation steps may be necessary. The 2023 report is linked above with the following conclusion: Variable leaf milfoil (VLM) was present. ADK Research did not find as much VLM in 2023 as was found in 2022. There are several possible reasons for this. Considerable flooding had occurred in Long Lake this year, which may have made beds of VLM harder to see. ADK Research also noticed large densities of bladderwort in 2023 in the areas where VLM was recorded in 2022. It is possible that growth of bladderwort in 2023 was suppressing VLM densities or visibility. Based on the results of the 2023 study and the flood that destroyed part of the causeway, the LLA is sponsoring a full survey in the summer of 2024.
